Passing your acceptance test is not the end of the obligation. NFPA and IFC both require public safety communication systems to be inspected and tested every year, and a building whose system has quietly stopped working is in violation regardless of how well it was commissioned.

Why systems drift

They are not static installations sitting in a static environment. Batteries lose capacity on a predictable curve and will not hold the required standby duration by year four or five. Amplifier gain settings shift. A tenant fit-out puts a wall where an antenna used to radiate freely, or a new building goes up between your roof and the donor site and changes what the antenna sees. Cables and connectors on a roof take weather.

None of that announces itself. The system appears to be powered and fine.

What the annual visit covers

Signal strength re-verified against the original grid so the results are directly comparable to your commissioning report. Battery backup load tested for the full required duration rather than spot checked. Amplifier gain, oscillation, and alarm conditions reviewed. Donor antenna alignment confirmed. Panel and annunciator functions exercised.

You get a dated report suitable for handing to your fire marshal or keeping in the building file for the next inspection.

Service contracts

We schedule these on a contract so the testing happens on time rather than when somebody remembers, which matters most in portfolios where nobody owns the calendar for it.

We also take on annual testing for systems we did not install. If you inherited one and have no idea when it was last inspected, that is a common and fixable situation.
